The leg knife is a traditional pattern with a curved frame that follows the shape of an animal's hind leg, which is where the name comes from. It sits differently in a pocket than a straight-framed knife. Imitation tortoise shell reproduces the mottled amber and brown of the real material, which has been banned from trade since the 1970s and only survives on antique knives.
