The JETBeam JET-IMK is a 3.25-inch aluminum flashlight running on either a 14500 cell or a single AA battery, with a CREE XP-G2 LED.

Accepting both a 14500 and an AA is the design decision that shapes everything else. On 14500 it makes 480 lumens for about 30 minutes. On AA the output is lower, but AA cells are sold everywhere and keep for years, so the light works in an emergency kit as well as in a pocket.

The 1.5-lumen Low running up to 100 hours sits at the opposite extreme from the high setting. A hundred hours at a level that still lets you see inside a tent or find a door is what turns a small flashlight into something worth having in a bag for years.
