Unique knife great character
Great service
Fast shipping from Georgia
The Hand Forged 4433 Railroad Spike Fixed Knife is forged from an actual railroad spike, a Rite Edge fixed blade carrying a black-finished carbon steel edge and full tang construction, with the spike's original steel shaped directly into the handle.
Starting from a spike rather than flat stock means the smith is working with whatever shape and imperfections that specific piece of steel already had, so the finished handle keeps some of that irregular, hand-worked character rather than the clean uniformity of a machined grip. Full tang construction holds the same steel the entire length of the knife, handle included.
These sell more as a novelty and conversation piece than a primary field knife. The draw is knowing exactly what the steel used to be before it became a blade. Every spike comes with its own dents, rust pitting, and wear from years spent holding down railroad track, and none of that gets sanded away before the knife is forged. It just becomes part of the finished piece. Buyers looking for a working fixed blade would do better with one of Rite Edge's dedicated hunting or camp knives; this one is built to be looked at and talked about first. The black handle finish is applied over the forged spike rather than the bare metal, giving it a more finished look than a raw, unfinished forging would have straight off the anvil.
