GROCO 1-Inch Bronze Mount-Ring Clam Shell Strainer

The GROCO SC-1000 hull strainer protects a thru-hull intake from larger debris before that material reaches the plumbing inside the boat. The mount-ring access design gives the owner a practical way to reach the underlying fitting when inspection or cleaning is needed. Its clam-shell exterior body covers the intake opening while still allowing water to reach the thru-hull. This configuration is intended for standard intake flow with easier thru-hull access, making it suitable for intake systems matched to that flow behavior.

The strainer is shaped to sit on the outside of the hull, so the mounting surface and orientation should be planned before holes are drilled. GROCO casts the SC-1000 body and door from marine bronze and uses cast filter slots with pressure-relief holes to screen the incoming water. The accessible door also makes it easier to inspect the intake face during haul-out maintenance. By keeping sticks, weeds, and larger debris away from the thru-hull entrance, the strainer can reduce the amount of material that reaches downstream baskets and pumps.

Position the SC-1000 so it fully covers the intended thru-hull without interfering with nearby fittings or hull features. Use marine bedding and fasteners appropriate to the hull construction, and make sure the access section can still open after installation.
