A metal connector shell holds up better over years of vibration and salt exposure than a plastic housing would.

Digital Yacht drop cables can also double as backbone cables and connect easily to build any length of backbone required, so this same cable works in either role depending on how the network is laid out. The total length of all drop cables on a single network must stay under 76 meters. That limit is worth keeping in mind on a larger installation with many devices spread across the boat.
