The ACR HydroFix Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) is a patented rod system that allows a beacon to release quickly and reliably from a Category I bracket. It triggers once submerged between 4.9 and 13.1 feet (1.5 to 4 meters).

It doesn't rely on a battery, blade, or pyrotechnic device to trigger the release. There's no separate power source or mechanism that could fail at the moment it's actually needed.
