What to Look for in Winches & Cleats
Size a winch by the boat length and the loads on the sheets it will handle, and check the drum diameter against your line size. Cam cleats should match the line diameter range listed for each model, or the line will slip or jam. Rope clutches let one winch serve several lines, which keeps cockpit layouts cleaner on boats with halyards led aft.
