Rifle and Shotgun Cases for Hunting, Travel, and Range Days

A good rifle or shotgun case protects the firearm and its mounted accessories while making trips to the range or hunting property easier to manage. Whether you need a compact carbine case, a longer hunting rifle case, or room for a shotgun with an extended barrel, the first decision is proper fit. Browse our firearm cases and range bags or explore more hunting gear at CritPro.

Start with the Firearm's Actual Dimensions

Measure the firearm from end to end with its stock set to the position in which it will be transported. Then check the interior dimensions of the case, allowing space around the muzzle and buttstock so closures are not under strain. A rifle with a mounted scope, bipod, or other protruding accessory may also need extra height and width, not simply a longer case.

Soft Cases for Everyday Transportation

Padded soft cases are practical for routine vehicle trips because they are lighter and easier to store when empty than most rigid cases. Look at the exterior fabric, padding, zipper placement, handles, and any internal tie-downs rather than selecting a case by length alone. A separate accessory pocket can help keep magazines, documents, or small tools from rubbing against the firearm.

For example, the Allen Tac Six 42 in Black Tactical Rifle Case is a 42 x 12-inch soft case made with Allen's Endura fabric. Its dimensions make it worth considering for a compatible rifle, but confirm the measurements of your complete setup before ordering.

Scoped Rifles, Shotguns, and Double Cases

Scoped rifle cases usually provide a taller profile around the receiver and optic. Shotgun owners should check the full assembled length, especially with longer hunting or sporting barrels. Double cases save space when transporting two firearms, but padded dividers and secure interior retention matter because two hard objects can shift against one another.

Soft Case or Hard Case?

A soft case is usually sufficient for protected handling during ordinary trips when the firearm is under your control. A rigid case is worth considering when crush resistance or a specific locking arrangement matters, including certain travel situations. Always check the transport and storage rules for your destination; a carrying case is not automatically a substitute for a locked firearm-storage system.

Organize the Rest of Your Range Equipment

Keep cleaning supplies, hearing protection, and loose accessories in a separate range bag to avoid scratching the firearm or optic. You can also pair the case with equipment from our shooting supports selection for bench or field use.
