The trapper is one of the oldest and most collected American patterns, and a sheath stamped for it is a matched accessory rather than a generic pouch. At 5 inches overall it fits the full-size trapper, which closes around 4.125 inches, with the room a leather sheath needs to take the knife in and out.
A snap closure holds the knife in when the sheath is inverted, which a friction fit does not, and it opens one-handed. Leather darkens with handling and takes on the same worn look the bolsters do, so knife and sheath age together rather than one looking new against the other.
